Without Light, No Darkness Around

(My deepest love to my friend, the best, most talented poet of our time, Delowar Hussain Monju. Rest in Peace)

Poet, poet,
Oh, soul of the poet,
Can you hear me?
You are not gone
Only sleeping.

The night wears its anklets in the dark,
Birds sing sweetly on the branches,
The Earth glides silently past Neptune,
And you rest in peace, untouched by time.

Can you hear it?
The angels whisper,
Their footsteps fading into the distance.
Perhaps you’re writing your best poems now,
Verses that will fly into the future.

Poet, poet,
Oh, soul of the poet,
As you sleep in the heart of time,
The trees still shed their green leaves
Untouched, untouched.
The canal you once crossed now brims with memory.

Stars sparkle,
The moon’s rays light your heart
A heart still dancing to the nightingale’s song.

Time has paused here,
Waiting for a new chapter of your life.
But life has not ended.
You are a time traveller,
And we are waiting for your return.

Poet, oh poet,
Soul of the poet,
Let me gently take your hand,
And lead you down the path of memory.

You sleep deeply, at peace,
Wrapped in the fortune of an exquisite dream.
Yes, there is work left unfinished,
More time to wait,
More years to come,
Until the day you’re called “dead,”
And the angel blows his trumpet.
