Destiny
My heart sizzles with the clock,
No light ignites the dark or shock.
The shadows steal the fading gleam,
And terror burns within my dream.
A sudden arrow flies so fast,
Its silent wound is deep and vast.
Time frays and falters, cold, unkind,
Thoughts slipping through the mind.
Inheritance flows like a stream,
Guiding us through fleeting dreams.
What does life offer but a shell?
No thirst can break the hollow spell.
Look to the moon behind a cloud,
A rocky shadow, pale and proud.
The stars have vanished from the skies,
No ancient song, no bright reprise.
A silent mourning marks the hours,
The path is strewn with wilted flowers.
Upon that shore, so bleak and worn,
A frozen body lies, forlorn.
The scamp’s life now fades behind,
Only fate remains resigned.
A final mark in ice and stone
What lies beyond is not our own.
